    FAQ

Answers to guide your maritime journey

A stainless steel chemical tanker uses stainless steel cargo tanks to transport chemicals requiring high corrosion resistance, cargo purity or stringent cleaning standards. Stainless steel provides greater cargo flexibility than conventional coated tanks and is suitable for many aggressive or contamination-sensitive cargoes.

Sustainable tanker design aims to reduce energy consumption and emissions while maintaining cargo capacity, safety and operational flexibility. It combines an efficient hull and propulsion system with optimized cargo and machinery systems, fuel flexibility and technologies appropriate to the vessel’s actual operating profile.

IMO Type 1, 2 and 3 refer to ship types defined by the IBC Code according to the hazards of the chemical cargoes carried. Type 1 provides the highest level of containment and protection for the most hazardous cargoes, Type 2 an intermediate level, and Type 3 the least stringent of the three.

Stainless steel tanks are typically selected for corrosive, high-purity or contamination-sensitive chemicals that are unsuitable for conventional cargo tank coatings. The requirement depends on cargo properties, material compatibility, coating limitations and previous-cargo restrictions, so the intended cargo list should be considered early in the design.

Cargo contamination is controlled through effective tank cleaning, cargo segregation and careful management of previous cargoes. Tank material or coating, piping arrangements, dedicated cargo systems and cleaning procedures are selected according to the intended cargo list and applicable cargo compatibility requirements.
