LNG bunkering vessels

Innovative and energy-efficient LNG Bunker vessels, tailored to your needs for sustainable, cost-effective and efficient operations.

Overview

Delivering excellence in LNG Bunkering vessel design

At FKAB, we specialize in designing state of the art LNG bunkering vessels, meeting the growing demand for cleaner marine fuels. Unlike conventional LNG carriers, bunkering vessels are designed for flexible and precise LNG transfer, ensuring safe and efficient refueling of various ship types. These vessels require advanced cryogenic systems, high-precision cargo handling, and robust safety features to comply with stringent environmental and operational standards. By optimizing energy efficiency, FKAB delivers LNG bunkering vessels that enhance fuel logistics, operational reliability, and sustainability for the vessel.

    FAQ

Answers to guide your maritime journey

An LNG bunkering vessel is a specialized vessel that supplies liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel to other ships. It carries LNG in insulated cargo tanks and is equipped with dedicated transfer, pressure-control, boil-off gas management and safety systems for ship-to-ship bunkering.

LNG bunkering in Singapore can be carried out ship-to-ship, allowing an LNG bunkering vessel to transfer fuel to another vessel while in port or at an approved anchorage. The operation requires coordinated mooring, transfer connections, safety zones, ESD systems and procedures complying with local port and regulatory requirements.

A bunker vessel is generally self-propelled and can operate independently between terminals and receiving ships. A bunker barge may be non-self-propelled and require towing or pushing, making it more dependent on local port infrastructure. The terminology can vary between markets and vessel configurations.

LNG bunkering vessels commonly use IMO Type C independent pressure tanks, particularly for small and medium capacities. Larger vessels may use other containment concepts, including membrane systems. Tank selection depends on required capacity, pressure, boil-off management, vessel arrangement and the intended bunkering operation.
