The first Swedish design under new rules
The pilot boat from Dockstavarvet (Docksta Shipyard) is the first ship built in Sweden according to the EU rules for inland waters.
Dithmarschen was classified by the Swedish Transport Agency through DNV-GL for Zone 2 with a so-called Community certificate for inland waters. After completion, the ship was transported by Docksta Shipyard under Swedish flag to Germany for further inspection of the German supplementary range “Zone 2 See “. The inspection was conducted by ZSUK (Zentrale Schiffsuntersuchungkommission), inland navigation supervisory authority in Germany.
The newbuilding is the first in a series of two. Dithmarschen was transferred to the German Maritime Authority General Directorate fur Wasserstrassen und Schifffahrt in Brunsbüttel 15 December 2017. The sister boat will be named Steinburg and will be delivered in May 2018.
The two pilot boats will replace three older vessels and will operate from Brunsbüttel on the Elbe to serve traffic to Hamburg and the Kiel Canal.
Cooperation with FKAB
The concept was made by the client in cooperation with SVA in Potsdam. All engineering has been made by the shipyard together with FKAB as subcontractor. The main dimensions are 27.6 m length, 7 m wide and 2.6 m draught at full-load displacement of 120 tonnes.
